We are using OPNET for both teaching an research activities: Teaching activities: Lab sessions at Computer networks course. We found OPNET technologies as an invaluable tool for network evaluation and protocol analysis for our computer networks students. We have employed the set of labs proposed by Prof. Aboelela and included in the Peterson and Davies book using the OPNET IT Guru Academic edition software. We have developed one new lab, related with link layer protocol evaluation (memo and files), and we plan, in future, to extend or adapt current labs to our own course syllabus Research activities: Wireless ad-hoc networking and multimedia delivery. The video coding and wireless networking people of our GATCOM research group are working with OPNET modeler for development of routing and QoS models that allows an efficient delivery of multimedia flows focusing our research efforts in MANET network technologies. Recently, we have also been working in experimental developments related with wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in general, and underwater sensor networks in particular. We plan to use OPNET simulation, analysis and development tools for designing and developing new protocols (or variations of the current ones) that can get the best performance in this particular kind of WSNs.
